Wrangel Tower
ooh Professor Baranova, 2A, Kaliningrad, Kaliningrad region, Russia
Description:
The Wrangel Tower was part of the defensive roundabout of the city, was built in 1958-59 in the then German city of Keningsberg. Its main purpose is to close the "weak" place of defense "Upper Pond".
In the 20th century, the tower lost its military purpose and was not used until 1944, when it was decided to place small arms depots there. In the post-war years, it was not used until one of the entrepreneurs engaged in the reconstruction of the building, in exchange for long-term rent and use for their own purposes. The contract was terminated and the tower closed.
The facility is under the protection of the state, but it has never been unambiguously used. It is planned to make a Museum of weapons, organize exhibition halls. What will happen with historical value next, time will tell.
