Forest lake
Description:
Forest Lake is an artificial reservoir located in the park of Maxim Ashmann in Kaliningrad. In 1903, Ashmann bequeathed the family estate to the city. It was decided to spend the proceeds on the creation of a park, on the territory of which several lakes were also laid. The largest lake was called Taich, which in German meant “pond”. In the lake you could swim, on the shore there was a beach. Nearby was a promenade and a slide. The territory was planted with plants, and swans were found in the park pond.
In the postwar period, due to the destruction of the irrigation system, the lake became shallow and overgrown with reeds. The name has also changed to Forest. Nowadays it is forbidden to swim in the lake, but the territory is suitable for recreation in the fresh air. In the lake there are ducks and swans, freshwater fish. The new fate of the famous lake began in 2015, when the European Union allocated funds for the reconstruction. In future plans, the arrangement of bicycle and pedestrian paths, a pier, a rental point with boats.
The park is located in the northern part of Kaliningrad. You can get to the “Victoria” by public transport on Gorky Street, and then walk about 15 minutes, or you can get by taxi (the trip will take 8 minutes).
