About the company:
Fort 5 is a monument of defensive architecture and a military-historical memorial complex. One of 15 forts that were located around the perimeter of the ring road around Koenigsberg. Fort 5 was built in 1878 and was called “King Frederick-Wilhelm III”, whose reign fell on the tragic years of the Prussian war with Napoleon.
It is a hexagon stretched along the front - a central structure, 360 by 180 meters in size, surrounded by a water moat 20-25 meters wide and 3-5 meters deep. From the main entrance, which was covered by a powerful dot, the central gallery leads inside the fort. Symmetrically located central structure included barracks for soldiers and officers, infirmary, kitchen and dining room, ammunition warehouses, food, guard room, boiler room. The ceilings of the fort are vaulted, made of brick, sand and concrete, up to 5 meters thick. Around the perimeter is a six-meter earthen rampart. In order to disguise the fort was planted with trees.
Fort No. 5 was part of the combat zone of the 54th Rifle Corps of the 43rd Army, commanded by Lieutenant General A.S. Xenophontov, and covered the road Koenigsberg – Raushen (Kaliningrad – Svetlogorsk). On April 8, 1945, during the assault on Koenigsberg, Fort No. 5 was captured in the course of many hours of continuous battle. The key to victory in the storming of the fort was the mass heroism of Soviet soldiers. 15 people were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
