Army command post 43

The building of the museum of the memorial complex is located on the southern slope of a high hill, from which the panorama of the city of Kaliningrad opens. At the foot of the hill, in a southerly direction, there is a highway. The hill, which was until 1945 a park area, has a rugged relief and dense forested thickets, which served as a camouflage and shelter for manpower and equipment of the 43rd Army in preparation for the assault of Koenigsberg.

The museum building is two-storeyed with a high base, rectangular in terms of shape. The main facade, on the long side of the building with central risalite, faces south, towards the city. Above the high basement with square basement windows and the entrance to the basement are two rows of windows of the first and second floors. Throughout the building there are high windows of rectangular shape and only on the central risalite of the main facade - windows with arched jumpers. On the site in front of the entrance to the museum there is a memorial stele with the names of the leaders of the assault of Koenigsberg.

In November 2023, Energoproekt-7 received a positive opinion of the state historical and cultural expertise on the design and working documentation of the adaptation of the former command post to a modern educational and methodological center. The project provides for the restoration and repair of facades and roofs with the restoration of lost elements in accordance with the historical appearance. It is planned to replace stairs, porches, old floors, all utilities and main pipes. The concept includes the re-creation of a decorative plaster layer, all cornice rods and a portico protruding from the east side with Ionic columns on the parapet walls with a historic three-march staircase.
