Church of George "Beyond the Rise"
Description:
The Church of St. George the Victorious “Behind the Horse”, built in 1701, is a two-storey stone temple built in the spirit of Moscow Baroque. The appearance of the temple has almost completely reached our days. The expression "behind the top" means "behind the ravine", which is associated with the features of the city's relief.
According to legend, the cathedral was built by Ivan Korobov.
The building is distinguished by a wealth of architectural details and slender proportions. The roof is crowned with five chapters. On the upper floor, there are galleries on the sides, which rest on 4 Romanesque arches. The temple houses a five-tiered iconostasis made in the 1780s. There are also white-stone portals of entrances to the upper and lower churches.
The temple was a cathedral from 1926 to 1999, now it is active.
