The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin in Romodanovo

ooh Zarechnaya, 18, Romodanovo, Kaluga

Description:

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, built in the village of Romodanov in 1680, is a two-chair church dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin and the apostles Peter and Paul. This is one of the oldest temples that have been preserved in modern Kaluga.

The five domes of the temple are placed not diagonally, but in a cruciform form, which distinguishes the temple from the others. The main volume of the church is two-pillars, not four-pillars, which is extremely rare. The altar faces southeast. The bell tower with a spire is the most prominent and final part of the temple. They say that even Peter the Great called it when he was in the area.

After the closure of the temple in Soviet times, it housed a bakery, a mill, a machine and tractor station, car workshops, etc. By the way, the fire further aggravated the condition of the church.

In the 90s, the temple was returned to believers, but its repair was delayed for many years.
