Church of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God in Kozlov
kozlovo village, Moscow district, Kaluga
Description:
The church is located on the river Rosvyanka - the right tributary of Ugra, in the village of Kozlovo.
The wooden church of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Mother of God in Kozlov was built in 1702. A century later, it was repaired at the expense of Unkovsky, a landowner who owned the village. In 1885, the son of Unkovsky built a new stone temple in the form of a ship with 5 cupolas and gilded crosses. Nearby built a two-tier bell tower with eight faces. In the temple was the tomb of Admiral Unkovsky. Later the temple was consecrated in honor of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God.
After 1930, the temple was closed and a collective farm barn was arranged in it. The tomb of Unkovskiy was looted and desecrated.
The temple was returned to the parishioners in 1990. Now the temple is active, and it is gradually being restored.
