The Church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God in Borovenssk

village Borovensk, Mosalsky district, Kaluga region

Description:

The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos, according to legend, was founded by a monk Ferapont - one of the disciples of Sergius of Radonezh. He established the monastery he created as an icon of the Assumption of the Mother of God, received as a gift from his great teacher. The icon was kept behind the right choir in an ancient kiota.

Stone two-storey church with a stone fence and three chapels (Christmas, Nicholas the Wonderworker, Basil the Great) was built in 1754 by Ivan Begichev.

In 1935, the church was closed, later a grain warehouse, a separator point and equipment for agricultural machinery were placed in it.

Unfortunately, today the temple is no longer used in any way: only ruins remain from it, emphasizing the former shape and size. The faces of saints are still visible on the peeled walls, but the destructive force over the years erases them more and more.
