The Church of the Ascension of the Lord in the village of Big Kamenka
big Kamenka village, Kaluga region
Description:
The Church of the Ascension of the Lord begins its history in the XVIII century, when the landowner Rimsky-Korsakov built a wooden church in the village of Bolshaya Kamenka.
In 1832, the wooden church was replaced by a brick one, and an impressive bell tower was built nearby. Over time, the church was expanded and completed - 2 more chapels were built (in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and George the Victorious).
Since 1885, there was a parish school at the church, which was located in a neighboring house. The temple was closed after the revolution, and the last priest Nikolai Batov was convicted and sent into exile in Kazakhstan.
Today we see the church in a dilapidated state. The roof and bell tower were preserved, fragments of arches, window frames, tiles remained inside. Inside the church is constantly cleaned, there are icons, some information about the clergy of the temple and the history of the village.
