City Park of Culture and Recreation in Kaluga
Description:
The Park of Culture and Recreation is located in the city center, on the Old Trade Square. It was here that once stood the Kaluga fortress – the wooden Kremlin. Now a witness of days long past is a 700-year-old oak tree, which saw the impregnable fortress walls that once stood here instead of the current elegant fence.
In the center of the park flaunts Holy Trinity Cathedral. Near the temple are an alley with trees and Vladimir Square, named after Prince Vladimir Romanov, who visited Kaluga. In the park grow 100-year-old maples, Siberian fir, Weymouth pines and silver fir.
In 2010, the park was restored: the fountain was repaired, a Ferris wheel was installed and an observation deck with a panorama of the Oka and the surrounding area was landscaped.
