National Park "Ugra" in the city of Kaluga
Ugra National Park is located in the Kaluga region, west of Kaluga
Description:
Ugra National Park is a federal state budgetary institution administered by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation. In 2002, the park was granted the status of a Biosphere Reserve under the auspices of UNESCO. The total area of the territory of the reserve (included the protected zone of the park and a number of additional sites) is 153832 hectares. Date of creation - 10.02. 1997.
Ugra National Park is a nature reserve two hours drive from Moscow. Our “pearls” are the Ugra and Gizdra rivers. Ugra National Park preserves 90% of the natural diversity of the Kaluga region. In the lakes-oldies lives the Russian dick - "the same age" mammoth.
On our territory, the end of the Mongol-Tatar yoke was put during the Great Stand on the Ugra. And we also have our own Great Green Wall – Kozelskie secs. All-Russian Orthodox strongholds, monastery complexes Optina deserts and Shamordino are the spiritual centers of the region.
We offer our guests an amazing opportunity to get acquainted with bison, these forest giants are listed in the Red Book, as well as in the list of rare and endangered species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
Since 2014, we have been working on the reintroduction of bison (the project “Restoring forests – returning bison”) with the support of the Charitable Foundation “Beautiful Children in a Beautiful World”.
In the visiting centers of the park you can get acquainted with fascinating natural and historical expositions or book an interesting excursion.
Enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Ugra National Park and welcome!
