Meshkov St. George Men's Monastery
Iskra, Meshkov district, Kaluga region
Description:
Meshchov monastery, built in honor of George the Victorious, was founded on the banks of the Ressa River at the end of the XV century. After they destroyed the monastery, it was revived at a new place, near Meshchovsk.
During its existence, the monastery experienced both periods of prosperity and periods of decline. The monastery began to be revived again in the XIX century, and in the twentieth century there were already built two stone temples in honor of Peter and Paul and the three-chambered temple of George the Victorious, the Elevation and Dmitry of Rostov.
Several shrines were kept in the monastery: the icon of the Sorrowful Mother of God and the ancient list of the Feodorov Icon of the Mother of God.
In Soviet times, the temple again fell into desolation.
In 2001, the monastery was restored. Now in the monastery there is a miraculous list of the icon of George the Victorious.
