Description:

Victory Square, located in Kaluga, is a memorial complex. Its basis is considered a thirty-meter obelisk and a granite wall, a fountain and the Eternal Flame of Glory. The square received its name in honor of the twentieth anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. Local architects worked on the project: Kireyev and Perminov. Previously, on the site of this square was a meadow, where there was a stone house and a fire tower.

The countdown of the history of Victory Square began on December 28, 1966. It was on this day that the monument of the same name was erected. The eternal flame in Victory Square was lit on the ninth of May 1970. Five years later, the remains of the Unknown Soldier were buried here.

By the way, on the square there is an obelisk, on which there is a bronze figure depicting a woman. It holds the tape and the first satellite of the Earth. The ribbon is a symbol of the Oka River, on which Kaluga is located.
