Mine in the village of Kurovskoye
village Kurovskaya, near the Kiev highway, Kaluga
Description:
In the former village of Kurovsky, the territory of which now belongs to Kaluga, there are two amazing sights: a mine and an enterprise for the production of ceramsite gravel.
Without reaching Kurovsky, from afar you can see two huge mountains, which are unusual for flat terrain, so the thought arises only one – here is located or once was an important industrial facility. It was a mine that was opened in 1958 to mine brown coal. Along with the construction of the mine, the active development of the village began, because almost half of its inhabitants worked in the mine. In the early 90s, it was closed as unprofitable, flooded, and the entrances were filled.
Now the turbulent past of the village resembles only a terricon, a pipe, a couple of buildings, dips in the forest, an exposition in the local library and the memories of local old-timers.
In summer, this area smells of sulfur, the content of which reaches about 6 percent.
