Spaso-Vorotyn Monastery
spas village on Ugra, Kaluga district, Moscow region
Description:
The monastery was built on the money of the great princes: Hitetovsky, Turgenev, Vorotynsky, Streshnev. Donations were enough to create a temple, a cathedral, a brick cell, and a wooden chapel. After 300 years, the monastery was forgotten and abandoned. And by the XX century, only two parish extensions remained from the monastery.
In the 30s of the last century, almost everything that has not deteriorated with time was destroyed in the monastery. Monasteries and church buildings were destroyed and stolen. Since the Savior-Vorotyn monastery was not rich, all church utensils and ancient icons were taken away or hidden, the Bolsheviks, who had nothing to take, demolished the old cemetery behind the building. Beautiful gravestones with peculiar tombstones of the XVI century were destroyed forever.
Revival of the monastery began in 2000. Then began the reconstruction of the building. The old building of the nun of the Kazan Maiden Monastery is being restored.
