Urusov manor in Rosve
Description:
The dilapidated Urusov estate in Rosva attracts attention with its unusual architectural forms and pseudo-Moorish style of construction. The brick building with white-stone finish stands out among the ordinary residential houses of the village and attracts tourists visiting these places.
The estate was founded in the second half of the XVIII century by the Kaluga governor of Krechetnikov. Later the estate passed into the hands of his niece Shepeleva, her son, then Zhukov’s niece, later her daughter Princess Urusova and her husband Urusov. The latter made a significant contribution to the development of Rosva - they owned the estate before the 1917 revolution.
In Soviet times, a collective farm complex was located in the building of the estate. Today, from the estate there is a service building with towers, the buildings of a starch mill, a wing for yards, a hotel (restored). The Manor Library (7,000 volumes) is located in the Kaluga Central Library.
