From 2012 to 2016, the exposition of the museum was devoted to the events of the war of 1812, and from August 24, 2016, a new exposition dedicated to the 240th anniversary of the Kaluga province began its work. The exposition also presents memorial items of G.S. Batenkov.
The wooden building built in the first half of the XIX century was bought by the Decembrist G.S. Batenkov from the homeowner Efimova in 1857. He spent the last seven years of his life there.
In the XX century, communal apartments were located in the building, and only thanks to the painstaking work of local historians and descendants of the pupil G.S. Batenkov, the house was preserved and transferred to the local history museum. During the restoration of the house, its area increased due to the extension, which is part of a multi-storey house that occupied the territory of the former estate of G.S. Batenkov.
