Tarusian Museum of the Tsvetaev Family

The museum was opened on October 4, 1992. - in the year of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the poet M.I. Tsvetaeva. Work on the creation of the museum began in 1988. on the initiative of E.M. Klimova (at that time the head of the district society “Knowledge”, now the director of the museum of the Tsvetaev family). In 1989 a public organizing committee was organized. A great help was provided by active members of the organizing committee: People’s Artist of Russia L.I. Ivanova and her husband V.A. Milyaev – a famous bard and physicist, then director of the Tarus branch of IOF AN. After the decision of the Council of People's Deputies of the Kaluga region from 9.08.1991, the Kaluga Regional Museum (now Komz) began to prepare the museum for opening.

The museum is located in the restored House of Tjo. The wooden one-story building was bought in 1899. Marina Tsvetaeva's maternal grandfather A.D. Mayne. After his death, his second wife lived in the house for the last 20 years of his life, whom the younger sisters M. and A. Tsvetaeva nicknamed “Tyo”. Tsvetaev often visited this house in the summer. They lived there when they arrived in Tarusa not in the summer. M. Tsvetaeva came to this house in the summer of 1912 with her young husband S. Efron. In 1903. Tyo specially for Tsvetaev built a neighboring house (guest wing). The preserved memorial wooden, one-storey wing with the help of the Governor of the Kaluga region A.D. Artamonov was bought from the owners and transferred to the museum. It is in the process of museumification.

The exposition of the museum is dedicated not only to the Tsvetaev family, but also to their Tarusian relatives Dobrotvorsky, Tarusian family friends, etc. The themes of the exhibition halls: “The arrival of the Tsvetaevs in Tarusa”, “Life and work of M, Tsvetaeva”, “The Tsvetaev family”, “Environment of the Tsvetaevs in Tarus”, “Grandfather’s Cabinet”. The museum plans to create a Tsvetaev estate museum taking into account 2 buildings.

The museum funds are based on memorial items: furniture, dishes and other household items of the Tsvetaev family, their relatives and friends; their personal belongings, documents and authentic photographs; books with autographs by M. Tsvetaeva, lifetime editions of M.I., I.V. and A.I. Tsvetaev; letters, autographs of family members and famous cultural figures; drawings and watercolors by A.S. Efron (daughters of M.I. Tsvetaeva), a large collection of books X1X-nach. In Russian and foreign languages and much more.

The museum holds annual Tsvetaev holidays, Tsvetaev children's festivals-competitions (1 time in 2 years), Tsvetaev scientific readings, literary and musical living rooms, etc.

Working hours:

• 9:30 to 18:00 without lunch
  Weekend is Monday.
  The last Wednesday of the month is a sanitary day.
