About the company:
The Tarutino Military Historical Museum dates back to 1962. The first years of the museum, created by Sinelshchikov V.Y. (1907-1984), the museum worked on a voluntary basis. 1967. received the status of a branch of the Kaluga Regional Museum of Local History.
The museum is located on the territory of the Tarutin Memorial, created in 1971. There are also monuments of the Patriotic War of 1812 and the Memorial of 1941 (the brotherly grave of soldiers of the 17th and 53rd rifle divisions defending the approaches to Moscow, and the T-34 tank).
In 1834, one of the first field monuments was opened in Tarutin in honor of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812. The monument was built on the money of peasants who received in 1829 from the owner of Count S.P. Rumyantsev freedom "to commemorate the events of the Patriotic War of 1812", who glorified Tarutino. The grand opening of the Monument of Russian Military Glory took place on June 25 (July 7) 1834. The monument stands on one of the fortifications of the Tarutin camp, which M.I. Kutuzov asked to preserve as monuments of courage of Russians.
The exposition of the museum is dedicated to the Tarutin period in the Patriotic War of 1812 (September 14 - October 23), when the Russian army, leaving Moscow and making the Tarutin March maneuver, camped in Tarutin on the right bank of the Nara River, on one of the main roads (Old Kaluga), leading to the south of Russia. For 3 weeks spent in the advantageous position of the Tarutin camp, the Russian army was replenished with fresh forces, strengthened. The result of this strengthening was the Battle of Tarutin (October 18), in which the French Marshal Murat’s detachment was defeated. This victory was of great moral importance for raising the morale of Russian soldiers. The first offensive battle in the main theater of operations brought confidence in the victory over Napoleon.
