Kamennomostsky

Lake Red

Russia, Republic of Adygea, Maikop district, Kamennomostsky settlement

Description:

Not far from the village of Kamennomostsky in the Republic of Adygea is an abandoned, worked out many years ago stone quarry for the extraction of limestone. Impressive walls of this multimeter section of rock, converging to its bottom by several tiers.

The springs beating in the quarry flooded its lower part, forming a beautiful deep lake. This lake is called quarry or red. If you look at the lake from above, from the edge of the cliff, it seems as if the water in it has a pinkish tint. In fact, this quarry wall is reflected in the lake, painting it red.

The lake is very popular with locals, especially children, who often come here to swim in the summer heat. It is believed that the water in the lake has the ability to heal abrasions and bruises.

The path to the bottom of the quarry begins on the southern outskirts of the village of Kamennomostsky from large old stoves for firing limestone. After passing through the quarry and swimming in Red Lake, you can walk along the road further to the Una Koz ridge or to the beautiful canyon of the Michoko River.
