Annunciation Church
Kargopol, Arkhangelsk region, Russia
Description:
In the Arkhangelsk region, in the city of Kargopol, there is a snow-white five-domed building - this is the Annunciation Church. It was built on the Old Trade Square in 1692 by the architect Shakhanov. Peter I invested 100 rubles in the construction.
This is a magnificent white stone church. The lines of the temple are absolutely clean, the height and oval of the aspid are in the correct ratio. The temple is decorated with stone patterns, here you can see stone carved casings, these patterns are not repeated anywhere else. There is nothing unusual in windows, in columns, tourniquets, diamonds and beads, but they acquire the character of novelty in this place.
In each of the three spindles there are 3 rows of windows. This means that the building has 3 floors, of which 2 windows on top belong to a cold room. The configuration of window openings is not the same as the pattern of casings. On one window a pointed kokoshnik is cut, on the other - a three-bladed one, on the third - a deep perspective opening of three rollers.
The church is less beautiful inside. It was closed for a long time and continued to collapse, but today it is gradually restored by the Kargopol Museum.
