Church of the Nativity

kazakovo, Arkhangelsk region, Russia

Description:

The Church of the Nativity of Christ is a majestic ancient church of the XVII century, which is an architectural monument of federal significance. Together with the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God is a beautiful paired architectural ensemble.

The Church of the Nativity is located near an ancient cemetery in the village of Kazakovo or Bolshaya Shalga, east of the city of Kargopol. This is a wooden church built in 1745 or around the end of the XVII century. It is a classic tent temple with a refectory. Its tent is decorated with slightly convex narrow and high faces, and the rectangular altar is covered with a large barrel. The refectory was built some time after the church building itself. Above the refectory rises an eight-sided log with a headboard. The facade of the church is decorated with identical windows on the sides, which appeared after restorations and renovations of the church. Previously, the temple complex was surrounded by a chopped fence with gates that faced north towards Kargopol.

Today, this temple is in a state of disrepair, so in 2011, the company "Carancy" took the responsibility to develop a restoration project of the temple, as the building needs major repairs.
