The Temple of the Meeting of God
Russia, Arkhangelsk region, Kargopol district, Shelokhovskaya village
Description:
The Church of the Meeting of the Lord, located in the village of Shelokhovskaya, about 60 kilometers from the city of Kargopol, Arkhangelsk region, was built entirely of wood in the XIX century by parishioners. Earlier, the refectory and chapels adjoined the church in the name of the Great Martyr George the Victorious and the Holy Martyrs Flora and Laurus, which have not survived to this day.
The Church of the Lord’s Creation, standing 200 meters from the bank of the Onega River, is a cube-walled building with a roof in the form of a helmet, ending with a small cupola. This type of building is typical for churches of Prionezh. There are no services in the old temple. Nowadays, the parish of the Sretensky Church of the village Shelokhovskaya, created in 2005 on the basis of the local Sretensky chapel, plans to restore the Church of the Meeting of the Lord.
