Cathedral bell tower
trade Square, Kargopol, Russia
Description:
The cathedral bell tower is a symbol of the Russian city of Kargopol, which is a high three-tiered bell tower on its central square - the Trade Square.
The cathedral bell tower is located near the Onega River, in the center of the city of Kargopol, in northwestern Russia. This is one of the most important architectural sights of the city, along with the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ. The height of the bell tower is 61 meters. Its style is different from the other Christian shrines in the square, but it is part of their joint architectural ensemble. The bell tower is made in a rather complex style - its lower part is made in the form of high passage gates, the second tier is decorated with columns of the Ionic order, and the third - flat pilasters. On the top floor there used to be a big clock with ringing.
In 1993, the bell tower was restored and its bell ringings were restored. It was renovated again in 2003 after the bell tower was damaged by fire.
