Sreteno-Mikhail Church

Russia, Arkhangelsk region, Kargopol, Krasnaya Lyaga

Description:

The Sreteno-Mikhailovsky Church is the oldest Orthodox church in the Kargapol district. This architectural monument is located in the village of Krasnaya Lyaga. Both the village and the church are now abandoned. Sometimes tourists come here to admire the ancient architecture of the building and the shrines that have been preserved in it.

The Sreteno-Mikhailovsky Church was built in 1655. The base of the building has an octahedral log with two cuts symmetrical to each other. For Kargopol district, this type of construction is considered quite rare. It can be found only in the middle and upper reaches of the Onega River. Until now, the church has come in a very rebuilt form. During the repair in the early XX century, the windows were remade, the covering of the western log house was changed, and a pedestal was installed under the clubs, which significantly reduced the size of the tent. Previously, the walls of the church were covered with decorative plating.
