The Kargopol Museum was established in 1919 on the basis of a private collection of philistine K.G. Kolpakov. The museum consists of 19 architectural monuments, of which 17 are of federal significance, located in the city and its environs. Among them are masterpieces of stone and wooden architecture of the XVI-XVIII centuries. The expositions of the museum are located in white stone temples. The pride of the museum is a collection of icons and church sculpture, folk costume and embroidery, wood paintings, women's headdresses. Every day at noon, bell ringings are heard from the Cathedral Bell Tower performed by the bell ringers of the museum, welcoming guests and residents of the ancient city. Since 2005, the museum has been holding the festival of bell art "Crystal Bells" at the Epiphany, which ends with water consecration and bathing in Jordan on the Onega River. Very popular performances of the choir of lovers of sacred music "Svetlen", which was created and works at the Kargopol Museum. As a result of the joint project "Living Tradition" with the school of the village of Pechnikovo, a "Museum - Workshop" was created on the site of traditional pottery, in the homeland of the masters of Kargopol clay toys. In June 2007, the G.P. Hunn Russian North Library was opened. It is based on the personal library of Heinrich Pavlovich art historian, researcher, journalist, traveler, writer. The backbone of his library is books about the North. The museum has a choir of lovers of spiritual singing "Svetlen", there is an exhibition - sale of products of folk masters |
Unique architectural features are the architectural monuments of stone architecture preserved in Kargopol. Some of the temples are objects of the museum, they house museum expositions. |
