Kasimov Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve

The decision to organize a museum in Kasimov was made in 1919. At the District Department of Public Education, a museum subdivision was created, which in 1921 was transformed into the Kasimov Museum of Local Lore.

Employees of the museum carried out intensive gathering, educational, research work. It was during these years that the foundation of the museum collection was laid, and significant merit in this belonged to the first director of the museum Ivan Alexandrovich Kititsev.

Initially, the collections of the museum were formed on the basis of values from the estates of princes Golitsyn and Olenin, as well as closed temples and monasteries. Since that time, the collection has been regularly replenished, and now the Kasimov Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve is the second in the number of exhibits in the Ryazan region.

In eleven halls of the museum there is a stationary exposition “History of Kasimov region since ancient times”. The collection presents materials on the history of the city, ethnographic exhibits, archaeological finds, painting. Also, there are regular traveling exhibitions, interactive events, lectures.

The museum is located in the historical center of the city - it is located in the building of the Alyanchikov merchants' mansion, an architectural monument of regional importance.
