Raifa (Raifa Theogoroditsky Monastery)

Raifsky Bogoroditsky Monastery is located on the shore of a protected forest lake 25 kilometers from Kazan surrounded by pine forests. Raifa Monastery is one of the largest active monasteries of the Kazan diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. The construction history of the architectural ensemble of the Raifa Monastery reflected changes in the architectural tastes of several epochs, from the Middle Ages to modern times, but in general Raifa Monastery is a bright monument of ancient Russian culture. Since the XVII century, the monastery has kept the miraculous icon of the Mother of God - one of the main shrines of the monastery, to which tens of thousands of pilgrims come annually. On the territory of the monastery there is a chapel, in which water is brought from artesian wells. The chapel and the spring were consecrated by Patriarch of All Russia Alexy II in September 1997.
