Bulak Bridges

Description:

Bulak is a duct connecting Lake Nizhny Kaban with Kazanka in the Vakhitovsky district of Kazan. Ends near the Kazan Kremlin at the Millennium Square. The name comes from the outdated Tatar word “bolak”, meaning “small river”. Before Bulak flowed into Kazanka two sleeves: one near the fortress, the other somewhat to the west - Rotten Bulak.

Six bridges are thrown over Bulak (from the Kremlin to Tatarstan Street): Lozhkinsky, Lebedevsky, Romanovsky, Degtyarevsky, Baturinsky, Bulachny. The first built Zharkovskiy bridge has not survived.

During the tour you will get acquainted with the history of each bridge over Bulak, learn what was on the banks of Bulak in the 19th century and what buildings stood here. See the photos of old Kazan of the 19th century.
