Sviyazhsk Island
Description:
The national treasure is the island-city of Sviyazhsk, a "round mountain" that rose above the river expanses. It is an amazing story of its creation. Its monasteries and temples are famous. The Assumption Cathedral of the Virgin of Sviyazh-Uspensky Monastery since August 2017 is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sviyazhsk was founded in 1551 as an outpost of the Russian troops of Ivan the Terrible. Many events related to Sviyazhsk and the fate of people made it a unique monument of national history and culture.
