The island-city of Sviyazhsk is an ancient fortress that was built by Ivan the Terrible for the capture of Kazan in 1551, then it turned into a county and commercial city, a large Orthodox center. After a long oblivion, Sviyazhsk was revived thanks to large-scale restoration work, and in 2017 the uniqueness of the Assumption Cathedral in Sviyazhsk was recognized by UNESCO.
Sviyazhsk is small in size and from almost anywhere there is a view of the river surface. These waters still protect the city from the unnecessary invasion of modernity, and for you there is an opportunity to look into history through the ages and like a tangle of strings to weave the course of time.
