Tale of the island of Buyan (Sviyazhsk)

Island-city Sviyazhsk is a fortress city, built 60 km from Kazan by decree of Ivan the Terrible. This fortress was larger than the Pskov, Moscow and even the New Town fortresses. Unfortunately, there was no trace of her. But the ancient temples, picturesque curves of the streets are preserved. We will plunge with you into the Pushkin fairy tale and you will see that Sviyazhsk is not in vain compared with Buyan, about whom the poet wrote!

You will be amazed by the beauty of old churches. Thanks to the cathedral of the 16th century, Sviyazhsk partially entered UNESCO. You will see the image of an unusual saint with a horse’s head, if you want, climb the bell tower of the St. Nicholas Church and see the wonder city from a bird’s eye view!
