The Great Bulgarian
Description:
On the high left bank of the Volga lie the ruins of an ancient city. About his former power and glory speaks the name "Great Bulgarian". The land of the Bulgars - the distant ancestors of modern Tatars, today has become a place of pilgrimage and a Muslim shrine. Far from the Volga you can see the silhouettes of stone buildings, reminiscent of the magnificent oriental palaces, mosques and mausoleums that once adorned the Great Bolgar. The city, which arose in the 9-10 centuries, was the economic, political and cultural center of Volga Bulgaria.
Since autumn 2014, the city of Bolgar has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
