Kazan Virgin Monastery

Kazan Bogoroditsky Monastery is a federal architectural monument, the place of obtaining the miraculous image of the Virgin.

1579 - the year of the monastery foundation, as well as the appearance of the icon. At that time, the eastern part of the city was in ruins because of the fire, in one of the affected yards was found the image. Legend has it that the location of the shrine was told to people by the Mother of God. She dreamed three times of Matrona, the daughter of a nobleman of Novgorod. And when the search for the icon began, the girl easily found it in the place to which the Mother of God pointed. Some time later, Ivan the Terrible issued a decree on the construction of the Bogoroditsky monastery. And as the first nuns chose Matrona, which became known as Mavra.

Kazan Bogoroditsky Monastery is located on Big Red Street, which has the status of one of the oldest streets of Kazan. You can get there in two ways: by metro (Kremlinskaya) and by bus (KAI, Baturin Street).
