Description:

Kremlin Street is the main street of the historical center of Kazan, 1050 meters long. The street runs from the Kremlin to Kazan State University, parallel to Trade Union Street. The main development of the Kremlin street was formed by the end of the XIX century.

The street appeared part of the posad, built up with wooden houses, in the XVI century. The first name of the street is Spasskaya by the name of the tower of the Kazan Kremlin, then it was Resurrection, since 1917 - Chernyshevsky, since 1960 - Lenin, the street received its modern name in 1996. Thanks to the central location of the street, its old buildings have been preserved in a decent form. The street takes its beginning on the square of the First May, the most ancient part of the city, where in the XVIII century auctions were held, royal decrees were announced and executions were carried out.

Along the street are the Chernoyarovsky Passage, the architectural monument of Kazan Art Nouveau, the Alexander Passage, built in the forms of eclectic romantic direction, the ancient building of the XIX century hotel "Juseppe", the complex of Kazan State University, the building of the National Library of the Republic in the Empire style. Walking here you can see all the sights on one plane: the old building of the National Museum, the Spasskaya Tower, the minarets of the Kul Sharif mosque, the city hall building. In 2011, the entire pedestrian part of the street was paved. A walk along the Kremlin Street is a mandatory event for tourists and guests of the city.
