About the company:
The museum originated from the Cabinet of Natural History, or "Natural Cabinet", which was the university's charter of 1804. At the end of the XVIII century, Prince G.A. Potemkin-Tavrichie by order of Catherine II planned to create a university in Ekaterinoslav. Collections of animals, plants and minerals were collected for him. It so happened that by decree of Paul I in 1798 they were transferred to the Kazan Gymnasium, on the basis of which the Kazan University was created.
The first head of the museum was Professor Fuchs. He purchased the conchyological collections of Professor K. I. Bronner, consisting of 578 shells. In the formation of the museum in 1823-1827, a very important role was played by a corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences and a future honorary member of the Kazan University, Professor E.I. Eichwald. With him, the first systematic admission appears in the museum: zoological and paleontological collections collected by him during an expedition to the Aral-Caspian region. He organizes the Cabinet of Comparative Anatomy - the basis of the modern department of invertebrates. At the same time, the "Inventory of things belonging to the Zoological Cabinet of the Imperial Kazan University" was compiled, which became the first systematic catalog of the collection.
Of particular importance for the development of the museum in the period from 1828 to 1860 was the activity of corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences Professor E. A. Eversmann. Under him, the museum finally assumed the character of a systematic collection of zoological collections. Significant regular receipts of drugs began due to purchases from private collectors and purchases abroad: in Wiesbaden, Leipzig, Berlin and especially in Hamburg from the owner of the trading company Brandt. Thanks to these acquisitions, the museum now has a large number of valuable exhibits.
Much has been done for the museum by M.D.Ruzsky, I.N.Strelnikov, S.I.Bilkevich, E.D.Peltsam, Y.P.Koxin, E.V.Prokhorov, A.A.Ostroumov.
