Kazan boot
Description:
Kazan boot! The Tatar people were nomadic in the past. Therefore, they traditionally hand-made various products from pieces of colorful leather with national symbols, patterns: these are shoes, bags, bracelets, and sofa pillows decorated with Tatar leather mosaics. An important place in the world culture is occupied by Tatar Ichigi boots - a kind of light footwear with a soft toe and an inner hard back, which were sewn with a unique Tatar seam. And they're still made by hand.
“Tatar sewn silver boot” was very popular in the XIX century. In Ichigi was the shoes of old Prince Bolkonsky in the novel “War and Peace”. And Marina Tsvetaeva in her memoirs mentions the mother of the then fashionable poet and artist Maximilian Voloshin: her foot was “in a fabulous Kazan boot.” In 1899, the great Russian actress Vera Komissarzhevskaya appeared on the stage of the Imperial Alexandria Theater in St. Petersburg as Vari in the play by A. Ostrovsky and N. Solovyov “Savage” in a folklore dress with red embroidery and Tatar boots – ichigah. Tatar boots are expensive (about 10 thousand rubles or more), but the gift will be truly exclusive. Instead of boots, you can buy slippers with bowed noses upwards (in past centuries, the Tatars believed that it was impossible to scratch the ground with a boot toe), also made of soft leather, they cost from 2.5 thousand rubles.
