Decorative Gate "Day and Night"
Description:
The decorative gate, Day and Night, has been adorning the Syuyumbike Tower in Kazan since 2004. (architect Zabirov) The main elements of the gate are the sun and crescent, personifying day and night. Above them are the representatives of the zodiac circle: above the sun - six signs of the spring-summer cycle, warmed by golden rays, and over the month - six autumn-winter signs in the glow of the stars. The design has plant motifs, including the familiar tulip. The main motive for decorating the Eastern and Western European gates of the XVIII century is a spiral with zoomorphic images on it. There are zoomorphic images on the new gate, for example, Ak Bars, the patron of the Tatar people or the famous Kazan dragon Zilant. Duck with a lump of clay in cranberries reminds us of the legend of the creation of the world, and the swan personifies the ruler of Syuyumbike. In one of the legends of Syuyumbik, thrown from the tower, does not break, but turns into a Swan and flies away. The Sirin bird is found in fairy tales of different peoples, like a bird carrying a hero to a fairy-tale country. The falcon torturing Lan is an allegory of power (the gates of the tower are located near the former Khan's courtyard).
The gates of the Syuyumbike tower today perform only a design function, but two centuries ago, the entrance to the courtyard of the Oberkomendant House was carried out through them, which explains the presence of a sequin castle inherent in that era. Attention is drawn to the original rattles in the form of Leo - a talisman designed to scare away evil spirits.
