Kazan bypass
Description:
Kazan, my favorite Peter and Paul Church, 1723-26 I don’t remember who, it seems, Dobrolyubov (or Belinsky?) said about it “What a Tatar Russian church.”
In May 1722, Peter I visited Kazan for the third time. In memory of this event, the Kazan merchant, owner of the cloth manufactory, Ivan Afanasyevich Mikhlyaev (in whose house the emperor stayed) decided to build a new magnificent temple, unprecedented for Kazan. In memory of the visit, and at the same time in gratitude for the state cloth manufactories received in management.
Incredible beauty, flowers and berries on the walls. And a lion with a unicorn on the door.
(By the way, in 1722 Peter 1 celebrated his 50th anniversary in Kazan, hello to us, Nizhny Novgorod citizens, apparently, the tsar celebrated it in all cities along the way.)
