Kazan

Bauman pedestrian street

Description:

Walk along the "Kazan Arbat" (Bauman St.)

What do you need to see in Kazan? Of course, this is the main pedestrian street of the city - Bauman Street. This street became pedestrian in 1986, until that time from 1875 - 1899 years on this street went "Conca" - there was a horse-railway and 2 horses pulled 2-storey car on single-track rails. With the appearance of the first tram in Kazan, the rails also ran along Bauman Street until 1935. There were buses and trolleybuses on it. But everything changes over time and now you can walk 1.5 km along the oldest street in the city.

The street begins from the Kazan Kremlin (Kremlinskaya metro station). At the street. Bauman d.1 is the smallest male active monastery in the Kazan diocese - Ioanno-Predechensky, where you can look into the Vvedenskaya church (there are shrines). The street ends with a unique clock, the dial of which is written in Arabic script. It is here that lovers of Kazan meet on the first date: “Under the clock on Bauman”. It's a tradition in our city! Walking along this street you can see the apartment houses of merchants of the 19th century, the building of the magistrate of the 18th century, Nikolo - Nyssa Church with its shrines, which has a chapel more than the church itself. The attention of tourists is always attracted by the hotel "Kazan" (in the past "Shchetinkin Rooms" of the 19th century), which is now only a street decoration, as the hotel does not work. There is a monument of Soviet constructivism on the street - the House of Press, built in the 1930s. Few people notice that it looks like an open book. Next to it is the "navel of the Tatar land" - so jokingly called the "Zero meridian of Kazan", which shows the distance to major cities of the world, including Mecca. Got it on the street. Bauman Avenue of national stars, for this you need to carefully look under your feet, being at the House of Printing. It's like Hollywood! Throughout the street there is an opportunity to take pictures with unique exhibits: the cat Alabrys does not leave anyone indifferent (there is a story about Kazan cats), the bronze carriage of Catherine the Second stands exactly where in the 19th century there were crews of the theater, working since the beginning of the 19th century at this place. In summer, fountains work in the center of the street: "Frogs", "Doves", "Su Anasa" (mermaid). The dominant street is certainly the bell tower of the Epiphany Cathedral of 1897, which for a long time was the tallest building in Kazan in the 20th century. On the first tier of the bell tower there is a church shop, and if you do not lazy and look into it, you can see the gift of F.I. Chaliapin to the Epiphany Church - the procedural cross (original). F.I. Chaliapin was born in Kazan and baptized him in the Epiphany Church next to the bell tower. A rich history near the oldest pedestrian street in the city, it can be told endlessly. But it is better to come and touch the history of the millennial city of Kazan.
