Department of Nature of the Kuzbass State Museum of Local History

Kuzbass State Museum of Local Lore - the leading and oldest museum of Kuzbass, the center of research, local history and methodical work in the region - was opened in 1929. In 1943, it was granted the status of regional. In modern conditions, the museum has become the hallmark of the region. It accumulates objective and reliable information about the nature and history of the region.

The Department of Nature of the Kuzbass State Museum of Local History presents the exposition “The Place of Kuzbass on the Planet”. Sections of the exposition acquaint with geology, paleontology, flora and fauna of the Kemerovo region Here are unique finds of the expeditionary team of the museum: complete skeletons and individual fragments of skeletons of Siberian psittacosaurus, monoliths with traces of ripples of the sea of the Cretaceous period, skeletons of ancient crocodiles and more. The exposition reflects the stages of coal formation in the Kuznetsk coal basin.

For the first time in Russia, a scientific laboratory for the study of Siberian dinosaurs entered the structure of the museum exposition, thanks to which visitors are given the opportunity to become participants in the restoration and reconstruction of paleontological finds.

The Kuzbass State Museum of Local Lore is the only one in Russia that excavates dinosaurs according to the “License for the right to use subsoil for the purpose of collecting mineralogical, paleontological and other geological collectible materials” received in 2013.
