Kimr Museum of Local History
Tver region, Kimry, Kirov str., 13/8
About the company:
Kimr Museum of Local Lore was established in October 1918 by the cooperative organization “Creditsoyuz”. At the same time, they began to complete a unique collection of shoes and materials about the history of shoe production, since Kimry has long been rightly considered the shoe capital of Russia.
In 1939, the museum moved into the building in which it is now located. In 1977, it became a branch of the Tver State United Museum and four years later, after reconstruction, became available to visitors. The most important milestone in its history was the creation of a permanent exposition, opened on July 6, 1990 - two weeks before the Kalinin region became Tver.
The exposition, which reflects the original history of the Kimr region and the village of Kimra, known in Russia as the “capital of the shoe kingdom”, presents one of the richest collections of shoes in the country of the XVIII-XX centuries. In 2017, a new interactive exhibition “Capital of the Shoe Kingdom” was opened in the museum. Here you can walk along the street of the ancient village of Kimry, admire its architectural appearance, bargain at the Kimr bazaar, visit the Kimr shoemaker and a rich merchant.
Modern multimedia equipment will allow not only to plunge into the atmosphere of the ancient village, but also to learn a lot about pre-revolutionary life. The exhibition hall of the museum exhibits art and thematic exhibitions from Moscow, Tver and other cities of Russia.
