Description:
The architectural ensemble of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery belongs to the most significant creations of Russian artistic culture. On the shore of the beautiful Siversky Lake stretches a whole medieval city. On the territory of 12 hectares - 11 stone churches of the XV-XVIII centuries, numerous outbuildings surrounded by walls and towers of the "Great Sovereign Fortress".

Since June 1998, the main exposition of the museum is located in the Archimandric building - an architectural monument of the XVII-XIX centuries. In five halls of the first floor there is an exposition on the history of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery, in four halls - on the history of the city of Kirillov. In nine halls of the second floor there are unique monuments of tempera painting of the XV-XVII centuries, as well as works of applied art from monasteries and temples of Belozeria.

In the restored building of Povarni there are exhibitions reflecting the folk art of Belozero region. A great place here is occupied by wood carving, artistic metal, ceramics, weaving, peasant embroidery, lace, folk women's costume of the XIX - early XX centuries.

The Treasury Chamber of the XVI century houses an exposition dedicated to Russian art of the XVII-XIX centuries. Here are icons of the XVII century from the Belozersk church of Ilya the Prophet, a clerical portrait, objects of decorative and applied art, facial and ornamental sewing, bells, Old Believers lubok.

One of the interesting architectural structures of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery is the recently restored Brotherly Corps of the XVII-XIX centuries. Here since July 2002, for the first time in the history of the museum, the interior of the monastic cell of the XVII-XVIII centuries is open to visitors.

The city of Kirillov with the "Great Sovereign Fortress", the Ferapontov Monastery with the unique paintings of Dionysius are among the most attractive tourist sites in the Russian North. Since 1997 it has been included in the State Code of Particularly Valuable Cultural Heritage Sites of the Peoples of the Russian Federation. The architectural ensemble of the Ferapontov Monastery (a branch of the museum - the Museum of Frescoes of Dionysius) has been under UNESCO protection since the end of 2000.
