Sofia waterfalls are the most popular and picturesque attraction of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic. They are located in a valley near the village of Arkhyz (Western Caucasus). The source of the mountain river Sofia are the Sofia waterfalls, whose height is 3700 m. They are the second largest in Arkhyz, located between the valleys of Kizgych and Psysh. The top of the mountain is covered with glaciers that feed the waterfalls. Several streams of cold water break off from a height down, combining with each other in a single stream and forming a mountain river. The water falls at a high speed, creating noise that can be heard throughout the area. The Sofia River flows to the valley of the Psysh River, and then carries its waters to the source of the Bolshaya Zelenchuk River - the main water artery of the mountain Arkhyz. Therefore, the Sofia waterfalls are important and play a huge role.
