Kislovodsky National Park
d. Kislovodsk, Boulevard Resort, 21
Description:
The pride of Kislovodsk is its therapeutic resort park - a beautiful example of landscape design, in which natural beauty skillfully beat the imagination of man. The park is the second largest in Europe, but the first in beauty and richness of the plant world, sophistication of garden compositions and healing properties of the local air.
Work on the construction of the park began in 1832. Fertile black soil was brought to the rocky shores of Olkhovka, and trees were planted. Already in 1837, the year of M.Y. Lermontov’s arrival in Kislovodsk, the park occupied an area of 10 hectares and was a rather cozy place for walks.
Today, the area of the resort park is more than 1000 hectares. About 300 species of various local and exotic species of trees and shrubs are collected here, a beautiful rose garden is planted.
Kislovodsky Park is called therapeutic not without reason. At the end of the XIX century, the German physician M. Ertel proposed a method of training the treatment of heart and vascular diseases with dosed (in time and pace) walks in the mountains and called it Terrenkur. For the first time in Russia, this innovation was embodied in Kislovodsk in 1901. In the resort park laid 6 routes of Terrencourts, length from 1700 to 6000 m. Walks along the alleys of the park, clean air, increased natural ionization and saturation of the air with plant phytoncides have become a great addition to the healing properties of Narzan mineral water, for which thousands of tourists come here.
