Description:
Tchaikovsky House-Museum, the oldest memorial music museum in Russia, was founded in 1994. The museum is located in the house that P.I. Tchaikovsky rented from the magistrate V.S. Sakharov in the last years of his life, since May 1892. The house has fully preserved the living environment of the last years of the composer’s life, his personal belongings, library, archive. In 1916, according to the will of M.I. Tchaikovsky, the house was transferred to the Moscow branch of the Russian Musical Society on the condition that it will be preserved and maintained. In 1818, the museum was issued a certificate of protection, and in 1921 it was nationalized. The museum collection, which was started by Mikhail Tchaikovsky, has become one of the largest and has about 200,000 items. In addition to the P.I. Tchaikovsky Foundation, the museum contains the funds of the Tchaikovsky-Davydov family. The museum houses a philharmonic. In addition to the house of P.I. Tchaikovsky, a memorial park and manor buildings, the museum has an exposition "S.I.Taneev" and a branch - the estate "Demyanovo".
