Tour-trip to Kostroma

Kostroma is a historical city, stretched on the banks of the Volga. She is a sister of Moscow, although she is only five years younger. The brainchild of Yuri Dolgoruky on the Rosto-Suzdal land.

Pre-revolutionary provincial buildings, the largest shopping arcades in provincial Russia, cozy cafes, monuments of Susanin, Ostrovsky and Snegurochka, create the atmosphere of an ancient, noble, merchant city of the late 19th century.

Here you can recall the film “Cruel Romance”, take a picture in Ostrovsky’s gazebo and debarcader, to which, according to the film, the steamer “Swallow” moored.

Kostroma immediately fascinates its guests with coziness, soulfulness, leisurely and peaceful life, and it seems that this city has always been, but this is not so.

During the tour, we will talk about how Kostroma survived many invasions, and in 1613 it was here that the first of the Romanov dynasty, Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich, came to the throne. Recall the times when Kostroma was already part of the Moscow principality and not only the main trading artery of the country - Mother Volga - came out through it, but also these places were very profitable from the point of view of defense.

The tour route will pass through the Kostroma Sloboda, where beautifully preserved houses with their interior, similar to illustrations for a children's book, we will stop at Ivan Susanin Square and talk about his great feat, and at the end of the tour we will visit the famous Ipatiev Monastery, which is considered the cradle of the Romanov House.
