Kostroma Sloboda - open-air museum

At the walls of ancient Hypatia, on the banks of the Igumenka River, there is one of the most interesting and most picturesque open-air museums in Russia - the Museum of Folk Architecture and Life "Kostromskaya Sloboda", better known as the Kostroma Museum of Wooden Architecture. Its creators tried their best: ancient buildings transported here from various villages and villages of the Kostroma region, surprisingly organically fit into the natural landscape, resulting in a charming village street, along which we will walk during the tour.

You will learn about how, without a single nail, wooden houses, churches and chapels that stood for centuries were cut down; what tools were used by master carpenters and what types of trees went into business. We will visit the “black” chicken hut, visit the peasant potter, the middle peasant and the village rich man; learn how the Kostroma peasants lived, worked and raised their children.

All the buildings of the museum are located against the background of natural beauties, which makes them very photogenic: photos taken here are great even for beginner amateurs. And for photo shoots, this place is suitable as best as possible: it is not for nothing that it is included in the mandatory program of visiting the newlyweds of Kostroma.
