Creator of the destroyed flax plant: inventor Ivan Zvorykin in Kostroma
Description:
The inventor Ivan Dmitrievich Zvorykin was born on January 26, 1870 in the city of Murom, Vladimir province. He belonged to the same large and extensive family as the inventor of television. In 1905, like many representatives of the technical intelligentsia, he participated in revolutionary events, was arrested and exiled. Having been released, he began to work in his specialty.
In 1913, Ivan Zvorykin became a director at the spinning factory of the Big Kostroma Linen Manufactory.
The first time I went into the heckling of machines, I saw and was surprised that some of the workers were standing by the machines, and some were lying on their eyes, and I asked the attendant what it meant. He said to me, "These are the beds." They are lying, and the other part of the workers are standing by the machines. They'll get to the cars and they'll lie down. So they alternate, recalled Ivan Zvorykin about his first impressions.
The engineer insisted on the intensification of labor, the introduction of piecework payment, for which he was branded by Bolshevik leaflets.
In the Soviet years, Ivan Zvorykin sided with the new government, developed a new machine, which made a coup in the spinning of linen. In 1926, he proposed to create a laboratory, assemble the latest equipment, automate routine processes and make working conditions more comfortable. Prepared nursery, kindergarten, residential buildings.
The inventor did not live up to the start of the plant. He died in Kostroma on July 27, 1932, and the urn with ashes was walled in an obelisk on the territory of the enterprise. Linen plant on his project was built in the mid-1930s. In 1935, the construction of buildings was completed, in the following years equipment was installed. The first product was produced in 1939. During the war, they worked only on defense orders.
In 2011, the plant was declared bankrupt. Now on its territory there is a shopping complex. But even today there are “Zvorykin’s houses” as an architectural monument of the constructivist era, the name of the engineer is preserved as a city toponym.
In honor of Ivan Zvorykin, a memorial plaque was installed on the Avenue of Recognition, which is visited by tourists on the red route of author's excursions"Kostroma at 15:15.".
