Reserve "Kozelskie Zasek"
on the river Vytebet, Kozelsky district, Kaluga region
Description:
The reserve "Kozelskie Zaseki", located on the right bank of the Vytebeti and Zhizdra rivers, is one of the interesting options for ecological tourism in the Kaluga region. On the territory of "Kozelskie Zasek" multi-species broadleaf forests have been preserved.
On the territory of the park there are preserved records that were built by Russian people in the XVI-XVII centuries on the orders of the Moscow tsars to protect the state from enemy raids. These are defensive lines that are made of fallen trees – they are impassable for foot and horse soldiers. In places where the fence crossed wide roads, earthen and wooden forts were built with forts, towers and palisades. Constructions for defense turned in two directions in case of a Tatar raid or their return from Moscow.
Now ecotourists often spend their leisure in the reserve.
